The Ben Rochester Family is a bluegrass gospel group rooted in a family tradition of music and ministry. Led by Ben Rochester, the group features Ben, his wife Linda, and their children, Lizzie and JB.

Ben began his musical journey at age seven, learning harmonica and banjo before eventually mastering bass, guitar, mandolin, and dobro. At 12, he began traveling full-time with his parents and siblings as they ministered to churches across the country as The Rochesters. Throughout his tenure with The Rochesters, Ben gained decades of experience as a musician and vocalist, skills that served as a foundation for the formation of his own band.

CONTINUING THE LEGACY

After his parents retired from the road in 2021, Ben and his family had the opportunity to return to touring, leading to the formation of the Ben Rochester Family band.

“You can’t force what your kids are going to do, what careers they’re going to pursue. But I did have that desire in my heart that maybe I could continue on with them,” Ben said during an appearance on Gospel Music Showcase. “They’ve been a blessing to me.”

Ben’s unmistakable voice, paired with the pure vocals of his daughter Lizzie, is reminiscent of the distinctive sound longtime listeners remember from the original Rochester family band.

Known throughout the industry for his exceptional musicianship, Ben is one of the most respected multi-instrumentalists in bluegrass gospel music. His son, JB, carries on that tradition, playing bass and guitar with the group.

(Vocalist and guitarist Josh Gordon traveled with the family until his departure in early 2026. He is seen in much of the band’s online media.)

MUSIC & MINISTRY

The Ben Rochester Family’s music reflects Ben's extensive background in gospel music while incorporating the acoustic instrumentation and family harmonies of bluegrass.

The group’s first full-length album, Grace Carried Me Here, was released in 2024. It features traditional favorites, including “Sweet Bye and Bye” and “Redeemed,” alongside remakes of contemporary Christian songs such as Steven Curtis Chapman's “My Redeemer” and 4Him's “Living Water, Bread of Life.”

Their follow-up album, This Is My Story, was released in 2026 and also brings together traditional hymns (“Blessed Assurance” and “Tis So Sweet To Trust In Jesus”), contemporary Christian covers (Selah’s “Wonderful Merciful Savior” and “The Commission” by CAIN), and Southern Gospel classics (Gary Duty’s “In My Father’s Eyes” and Bill and Gloria Gaither’s “There’s Just Something About That Name”) in the family's signature bluegrass style.

ON THE ROAD

Today, the family performs more than 100 dates a year at churches and other events across the country. They have grown a following made up of fans of the original Rochester Family band and new listeners who are just discovering the sound of the Ben Rochester Family.
